'A Nazi Travels to Palestine' - Rare Nazi Medal with a Swastika and Star-of-David, 1934

Rare medal that was issued for the series of articles 'A Nazi Travels to Palestine' which was published in the Nazi journal Der Angriff (The Attack). Souvenir commemorating the cooperation between the Nazi Party and The Zionist Federation of Germany for their common goal of transferring the Jews of Germany to Palestine. Germany, 1934.

Star-of-David surrounded by the German inscription 'Ein Nazi fährt nach Palästina' (A Nazi Travels to Palestine). On its obverse, a swastika and the inscription 'Und erzählt davon in Angriff' (And tells about it in Attack).

In the early days of the Nazi regime in Germany, the Zionist movement tended to cooperate with the line the Nazi government took in its early days – encouraging Jewish immigration from Germany to Palestine. In the spring of 1933, The Zionist Federation of Germany decided to contact members of the Nazi Party who might support the Zionist cause. Kurt Tuchler, a Jewish German lawyer and judge, and a member of the leadership of The Zionist Federation of Germany, approached Leopold von Mildenstein, head of the Jewish Department in the SD (Security Service of the Nazi Party and the SS), and asked him to write in the Nazi press about the Jewish settlement in Palestine.

In 1933, the two of them traveled together to Palestine for a month to allow von Mildenstein to get a firsthand impression of the flourishing Zionist project. In a report that Tuchler later submitted to the Yad Vashem archive, he wrote: "The purpose of the visit was to create in an important Nazi newspaper an atmosphere that would promote the building enterprise in Palestine." Upon his return to Germany, von Mildenstein published a series of a dozen photo-articles about his tour in Palestine in the Nazi journal Der Angriff (The Attack), the journal of Nazi Propaganda Minister Joseph Goebbels. The articles were titled "A Nazi Travels to Palestine". In honor of the series of articles, Goebbels issued this medal.
