Large and Impressive Kiddush Cup, from the Important Workshop of Lazarus Posen. Frankfurt am Main. ca. 1900
Classic Kiddush cup crafted by the renowned silversmithing workshop of Lazarus Posen.
Based on the size of this cup, it was likely used as a Cup of Elijah, for the Passover table.
The workshop named after Lazarus Posen was considered in the 19th century to be the glory of the Judaica industry. Founded in 1869 in Frankfurt, Germany, it was run by Lazarus Posen's widow. In the 1880s Lazarus' son Jacob joined the family firm.
From an elegant and classic base rises a narrow stem topped by a large wide cup with a gilded interior.
On the base of the cup there are three silver hallmarks: 800, a crown and moon, and the hallmark of the workshop
22 cm. 221 gr. Hallmarked.
A lovely classic work from the Lazarus Posen workshop.
