'Musical Silver Chanukkiya'. Germany ca. 1900
Unique musical silver Hanukkah Menorah made in the early 20th century in Germany.
Placed in the massive rectangular base of the Menorah is a mechanical device that plays the song 'Maoz Tzur Yeshu'ati'.
The Chanukkiya has a designed rounded back. Placed on its lower part are eight silver circles with stars-of-David in them. Its upper part is classic and stylish. In its center, two lions holding the Tablets of the Law with the Ten Commandments engraved on them and a crown above them. Silver elements of hammering and sawing give the Menorah a rich and special appearance alongside classic traditionalism.
The Menorah has eight fonts and a Shamash and a special place for the wicks.
On the side of the Menorah there are German hallmarks of a moon and crown and a silver 800 hallmark indicating the quality of the silver.
"מָעוֹז צוּר יְשׁוּעָתִי" (Maoz Tzur Yeshu'ati) is a Piyyut that is customarily sung on Hanukkah after lighting the candles. The source of the Piyyut is apparently Ashkenaz during the Crusades. It has been accepted by all Jewish communities except the Yemenite ones. The author's name is implied in the acrostic of the first five verses of the song, "Mordechai".
This is a special calssic collectible combining elegant a fine design with musical tunes for Hanukkah.
