Silver Platter with Gemstones by the Important Artist Maxwell Chayat. New Jersey ca. 1960
Unique, modern Jewish work of art: silver and brass with gemstones by the artist Maxwell Chayat - an important American Judaica artist in the 20th century. Hallmarked.
Fine, impressive platter, beautifully designed, combining several quality materials.
The theme of the platter is indicated by the sepcial quote chosen by the artists as its central motif, which he cut it into the center of the silver plate:
"ישראל ואורייתא חד הוא" (Yisrael and the Torah are one) - the source of this quote is not known for certain. Some attribute it to the Zohat Hakadosh while others, to the Ramchal in Sefer Adir Bamarom, or to Nefesh Hachaim.
Above the central silver plate of the platter, the artist placed silver pillars with gemstones and flame-like peices of silver. The frame of the platter is fine and delicate, made of quality brass and adding another shade to this special platter.
Undoubtedly, this is the work of a talented and original artist.
