First and rare edition! Ma'asseh Roke'ach on the Mishnayot, by Rabbi Eliezer Roke'ach. Yosef Dayan Press, Amsterdam, [1740]. Pedigreed copy.
[1], 121, 6 leaves. 23 cm. Owner's signature on the title page and an owner's notation and signature on the flyleaf by Rabbi "אהרן בן מרים עטיל אוירבאך מעיה"ק טבריא תוב"א". With a handwritten gloss.
Rabbi Elazar Rokeach, served as Rav in Rakov, Tornov, Brody and Amsterdam and in his old age, immigrated to Safed, where he passed away.
Was revered by Gedolei Hador including the Nodah BeYehuda and the Chida, who greatly praised him. The Nodah BeYehuda wrote about him: "קבלתי מכתבו הטהור ולהיות שזה יותר משנה שאני אינני בקו הבריאה וראשי כבד עלי מאד ושאר הגוף לא פלט ובעו"ה אני סובל יסורים שיש בהם ביטול תורה....לכן אני נמנע מלהשיב לשואלים רק בדבר הנחוץ....אבל לאהבת אבותיו קדושי עליון כי מכותלי מכתבו ניכר שהוא בן לאותו צדיק הגאון מו"ה שלום זצ"ל בן בנו של הגאון החסיד מו"ה אלעזר זצ"ל אב"ד דק"ק אמשטרדם ולכן נתחזקתי מעט ועיינתי בדבריו הנחמדים" (- נוד"ב, מ"ת אבה"ז, ס"כ)
The Chida wrote: הגאון החסיד מו"ה אלעזר מקראקא בן הרב ר' שמואל חיבר ספר מעשה רוקח רמזים נפלאים במשניות ע"ד האמת, והדפיסו כשהיה מוכן ליסע לא"י תובב"א, ועלה לעיה"ק צפת תוב"ב, ואחר שנה נסע לג"ע. ושמעתי נפלאות מחסידותו ובקיאותו" (- שה"ג).
The important Rav Rabbi Aharon Auerbach (1877-1950) a Karlin Chassid of Tiberius. In 1929, he visited the Rebbe in Karlin, describing the Avodat Hakodesh at the Rebbe's court in letters he sent. When the Rebbe of Karlin visited Eretz Yisroel, he stayed at Rabbi Aharon's home. Was one of the founders of the Toras Kohanim Yeshiva of Jerusalem.
