Novellae on Tractate Kiddushin written by Rabbi Mordechai Michael Yaffe, author of Shu”t Maharam Yaffe and prominent disciple of Rabbi Akiva Eiger.
6 large leaves (12 pages, 24 columns) in his neat hand, within a new, deluxe binding.
Included with another volume of writings, 13 pieces of paper and notes with short novellae in his hand, some with complete ideas and some incomplete passages, including some thoughts and responsa, including a response to a question asked by Rabbi Shlomo Eiger (complete piece).
Rabbi Mordechai Michael Yaffe av”d Śmigiel (1803-1868) and Rabbi in the Kloiz of Hamburg at the end of his life, was a prominent disciple of Rabbi Akiva Eiger who taught Torah in Ashkenaz. He was born in Krotoschin, a descendant of Torah leaders and eighth generation descendant of the Maharal of Prague. He studied in the yeshivah of Rabbi Akiva Eigar for eight years and was one of his most prominent disciples. In 1840, he was asked to join the famed kloiz in Hamburg where he sat and learned and taught Torah for more than fifteen years, until his death in 1868.
His printed works include the Beit Menachem (Krotoschin 1834); Shu”t Maharam Yaffe (Hamburg 1852); and Hagahot B’Shu”t Mahar”ch Ohr Zarua. His comments on the works of prominent Achronim have been published in various forums.
