Midrash Rabbah. Amsterdam, 1777. Large, Impressive Copy

Midrash Rabbot [Midrash Rabbah] on the Torah and the five megillahs with commentaries and a new commentary called 'Nechmad L'Mareh' by Rabbi Shlomo Shalem.

Illustrated frontispiece - woodcut picture of Moshe, Aharon, Yosef and David, with a crown on each of their heads: Torah, priesthood, majesty and a good name [תורה, כהונה, מלכות, ושם טוב] and other drawings. With approbations from rabbis of Amsterdam and Holland at the beginning of the volume.

[4] 226, 95 leaves. Apparently there are copies with another title page before the meggilahs. Yet the copy before us appears complete, and the copy at the Valmadonna Library is also without this title page.

43 cm (!), especially wide margins - up to 10 cm. Thick, high-quality paper.

Fine condition: aging and dampstains. Original leather binding, slightly worn.
