Teshuvat Mahary"d. First Edition. Signature, Stamp and Author's Dedication. Lengthy Glosses

Teshivot Mahary"d - responsa on the four parts of Shulchan Aruch by Rabbi Yitzchak Danzig, son of Rabbi Manish of Slonim ... rabbinic authority of Peterburg. Warsaw, 1910. First edition.

The jacket cover bears the author's signature. Lengthy dedication on the back of the title page, entirely handwritten by the author, signed and stamped by him. Dedication text: "To the beloved friend of G-d and man, supporter of the poor, honorable member of our community, treasure house of pure fear of G-d, Rabbi Naftali Ish Felker. Signed on 4 Sivan, 1913, by his associate who honors him as befits his loftiness, Yitzchak Danzig."

Pages 35a, 35b and 36b bear four lengthy scholarly glosses in Ashkenazic script. The identity of the author of these glosses is unknown, but their content demonstrates that he is a superior Torah scholar, who writes in one of the glosses "The Talmud does not contain this sentence at all." To make such a declaration, that the Talmud does not contain a specific statement (before the era of computers), a person is required to know all of Sha"s by heart, and there are only a few such individuals each generation. At the same time, the author of these comments did hint at his name in one of the glosses, which opens with the words, 'HaMei"r said' and concludes with a signature, 'Abiri"m.' Likewise, there is an antique rabbinic owner's stamp in Oriental script at the top of the title page that we have managed to decipher only partially: "The youth Ovadiah ... S"T."

Refer to the Hebrew catalog text for a brief biography of the gaon Rabbi Yitzchag Danzig.
