Rare and Sacred! Tehillim Previously Owned by the Rosh Yeshivah of Mir, Rabbi Eliezer Yehudah Finkel
Tehillim that belonged to the rosh yeshivah of Mir, the renowned gaon Rabbi Eliezer Yehudah Finkel, son of the Alter of Slabodka.
The flyleaf bears his handwritten signature, as signed in most of his books: "Finkel."
Alongside the gaon Rabbi Eliezer Yehudah Finkel's exceptional Torah scholarship, he led one of the most famous yeshivahs in the entire world. He was known for his tremendous righteousness, as well as his powerful prayer. Rabbinic leaders of the generation would ask him to mention them in his prayers. Several names to be included in his prayers are noted on the flyleaf here, including "Nachum ben Kisha" - none other than the gaon Rabbi Nachum Partzovitz, the rosh yeshivah of Mir.
Not many know it, but the source of the custom for prayer by a tzaddik primarily refers to those by heads of yeshivahs, as stated in Bava Batra 116a: "Rabbi Pinchas bar Chamma instructed: Anyone who has an ill person in his home should go to a chacham to request mercy for him, as it says: 'The King's wrath is [as] angels of death, but a chacham will appease it' and the Nemukei Yosef there (53a of the Ri"f's pagination) adds that the custom in France is that "Anyone with an ill person requests that a rabbi who runs a yeshivah bless him."
Refer to the Hebrew catalog text for a brief biography of the gaon Rabbi Eliezer Yehudah Finkel.
