Bronze Medallion. France, 1870s
Bronze medallion in honor of French General Christophe Léon Louis Juchault de Lamoricière (1806-1865). Particularly large and heavy: 80 mm. diameter. Bust of the general with the artist's signature. The reverse features an impressive Biblical relief. French text. The General was very involved in the political events of 1848, and refused to give his allegiance to Emperor Napoleon III. After a number of military victories, he was defeated by the Italian army in 1860 and retired from military life. XF.
