Alon Bachut. Ofen, 1834. Especially Rare
Alon Bachut. Rhymed eulogy for Rabbi Zvi Hersh Heller, by A[izik] H[irsh] Cohen. Ofen, 1834.
[8] pages, 23 cm.
Rabbi Zvi Hirsh Heller was a prominent Hungarian rabbi, who served as Rabbi in Ofen at the end of his life (Alt-Ofen, which later joined with Pest = Budapest). He was close to the Chatam Sofer, and married his widow during the year of his death. Refer to: Encyclopedia L'Chachmei Galicia, 2, 665-671, which mention of the rarity of this eulogy. The author of this poem, Aizik Hirsh Cohen taught poor Jewish kids in Hebrew. He also authored "Avel Moshe" about the Chatam Sofer, also in the form of a poem. Alon Bachut is listed by Beit Eked Seforim (incorrectly), but is not listed by the Bibliography of the Hebrew Book and is not in the National Library.
Modern, half-leather binding. Minimal stains. Very fine condition.
