First Book by Rabbi Akiva Eiger. First Edition, in the Author's Lifetime
Teshuvot Rabbi Akiva Eiger, Book I. Stunning illustrations along the length of the book. First edition, in the author's lifetime. Warsaw, 1835.
This is the first edition (!) of the first book (!) by that gaon of geonim Rabbi Akiva Ginz Eiger - the epitome of Jewish understanding and genius, whose books have become an inalienable asset to Torah literature, considered among the most important halachic works of all time.
It was edited by Rabbi Akiva Eiger’s sons, the geonim Rabbi Shlomo and Rabbi Avraham, who pleaded with their father to allow them print his responsa. Rabbi Akiva Eiger himself carefully reviewed the entire book and arranged the “Table of Errata” at the end.
In the book’s introduction, the sons printed letters written by Rabbi Akiva Eiger with detailed instructions regarding its printing: omission of titles, omission of “my disciple” and also to print the book on “beautiful paper with black ink and well-formed letters because I believe that the mind is enthused and relaxed, and concentration is heightened, by studying from a beautiful and elegant book."
