Sefer HaRokeach with Handwritten Glosses by the Ya'ave"tz
Sefer HaRokeach - early halachic work by Rabbi Elazar of Germaiza. Cremona, 1557. Glosses in the very hand of Rabbeinu Ya'ave"tz.
Beautiful early edition of the important work, Sefer HaRokeach, one of the most important works of halachah by one of the early rabbinic leaders. Aside from the laws of prayers and festivals, issue v'hetter, and laws related to women, there are also discussions about fear of Heaven and repentance. In their foreword, the printers sharply attack the proofreader of the Fano edition [1505], who left many errors, possibly due to the fact that the printers were non-Jews. This edition here is considered the proofread edition.
Four handwritten glosses by the Ya'avetz appear long the leaves of the book. Three of these glosses are written in the Ya'avetz's sefarim!
One gloss is especially lengthy, including a commentary on a statement by the Rokeach in his preface - a Kabbalistic commentary. This commentary was printed as a responsum in Sefer She'ilat Ya'ave"tz Part II, question 86.
Halachic comment on the laws of marriage and mourning, printed as a responsum in Sefer She'ilat Ya'ave"tz Part II, question 183.
Another halachic gloss, mentioned in Mor U'Ketziah siman 51.
Refer to the Hebrew catalog text for a brief biography of Rabbi Ya'akov Emden.
Stamps from the Kloiz study hall in Altona (where the Ya'avetz lived). Two additional glosses handwritten by others. Early owners' signatures on the title page.

[4] 91 leaf, 28 cm.
