Very Rare: Sha'arei Dema'ot - Prayer for Wartime by the Chatam Sofer. Unknown Leaves
Kuntress Sha'arei Dema'ot commemorating the terrible war that broke out in 1914 ... for our broken brethren in Galicia who were exiled, by Rabbi Shmuel Reinitz, author of Olelot Ephraim. The kuntress was printed at the beginning of WWI. Paks, 1914. Yiddish-German and Hebrew. Rare work, offered only once at auction, without the additional leaves and the author's missive.
The work includes a prayer for wartime by the Chatam Sofer, with ten chapters of Tehillim determined by the Chatam Sofer. With the Yehi Ratzon prayer for the success of "Our pious and peaceful king, Franz Yosef I, with his highness the mighty King Kaiser Wilhelm II, emperor of Germany. May their kingdom and ministers enjoy proper counsel for the benefit of our brethren and all their citizens ..." With a preface in Yiddish by the author about the difficult situation. Most of the work is a lengthy elucidation in Yiddish by the author on the ten chapters of Tehillim. With names of soldiers to pray for!
Special copy: This copy has an additional [4] pages attached at the end with the text of the ten chapters of Tehillim. These leaves are bibliographically unknown. Likewise, there are two letters attached at the beginning of the kuntress from the author, in Yiddish-Deutch and in Hungarian (respectively) as well as a receipt stamped by the Hungarian post office.
Refer to the Hebrew catalog text for a brief biography of Rabbi Shmuel Reinitz, av beit din of Pétervásár.
