German Yellow Star Badge, Germany, Early 1940s
Yellow badge used by Jews in Germany, a star of David made of black lines on a yellow background, with the word "Jude" (Jew) at center.
The order instructing Jews to wear an identifying emblem was given in Germany on September 1, 1941, by the Nazi Ministry of the Interior, under the initiative of Joseph Goebbels. The requirement to wear the yellow badge ("Judenstern") began on September 19, 1941 and applied to all Jews in Germany from the age of six and up. The badge, a yellow star of David with the word "Jude" at center, was required by Jews to be sewn onto their clothes on the left side of the chest, at the level of the heart, so that it would be prominent in public places.
10x10 cm. Sewn on a black fabric background.
Very fine condition, slightly worn at the edges.
This item is being sold as is.
