The Minister Knows of the Affection of Breslov Chassidim and their Custom to go to the Tzaddik's Grave Site in Uman Every Year." Jerusalem, 1948
Special letter sent by lawyer and activist Dr. Mordechai Buxbaum to then minister of religion Rabbi Y. L. Fishman, with a request that he persuade the Russian delegate to allow Breslov Chassidim to go to R' Nachman's grave site in Uman on Rosh HaShanah. Buxbaum equates this to Pravoslavni Russians visiting the Holy Land and requests that they equate the conditions and allow Breslov Chassidim to maintain their gathering in Uman. Placed in a binder containing dozens of documents of attempts to build a synagogue for Breslov Chassidim in Batei Machase. Buxbaum was a close associate of Breslov Chassidim and even financed the establishment of the "Breslov-Ohel Esther" synagogue (named for Buxbaum's mother) in the Sha'arei Chessed neighborhood.
Mordechai Buxbaum (1898-1959) was a Chareidi lawyer and public figure. He was an assistant to Béla Kun, the Communist leader in Hungary. He later studied under his uncle, Rabbi Yehoshua Buxbaum, in Galanta. He ascended to the Land of Israel and settled in the Old City where he was a close associate of leading rabbis and public figures, including Rabbi Yosef Chaim Sonnenfeld, Rabbi Yosef Tzvi Dushinsky, Dr. Moshe Wallach and others, as well as non-Jewish dignitaries of the city. He served as a legal adviser to Agudat Yisrael and the deputy mayor of Jerusalem. His son, Rabbi Yosef, founded Machon Yerushalayim.
Various sizes, overall fine condition.
